BRITISH TROOPS GIVE NO QUARTER TO THOUSANDS OF SURROUNDED SIKH SOLDIERS

On 10 February 1846, British troops slaughtered thousands of Sikhs attempting to flee the Battle of Sobraon in the Punjab. After a fierce two hour engagement, Redcoat infantry and cavalry, under the command of Major-General Sir Hugh Gough, concentrated their attack on the surviving soldiers, who were hemmed into a small area on the east bank of the river Sutlej.

On 10 February 2003, just five weeks prior to the invasion of Iraq, the Joint Intelligence Committee (JIC) secretly warned the British government that the planned assault would increase the risk of a terrorist threat, the exact opposite to what Prime Minister Tony Blair had been promising the public.
