SHOOT THE PRISONERS AND THE WOUNDED !

[ 2 September 1892 ]

Today in 1892, the army of the Mahdi, a Sudanese religious leader,  was massacred by a British force, under General Kitchener, at the so called battle of Omdurman. About sixteen thousand Dervishes were killed for the loss of just 48 of Kitchener’s men.

GOVERNMENT MEMO ADMITS THE UDA IS MERELY A FRONT FOR TERRORISM

UDA/UFF mural in Belfast – Chris Yunker – September 2005.

[ 2 September 1976 ]

On 2 September 1976, an internal Whitehall briefing document was issued which is revealing about British policy in Northern Ireland. It shows clearly that the government, while refusing to proscribe the Loyalist Ulster Defence Association (UDA), realised that it was indeed responsible for sectarian killings and terrorism. The paper described the UDA as ‘the largest and best-organised of the Loyalist paramilitary organisations (which)… tries to maintain a respectable front and, to this end, either denies responsibility for sectarian murders and terrorist bombings or claims them in the name of the Ulster Freedom Fighters (UFF), a proscribed and essentially fictitious organisation which is widely known to be a nom de guerre for the UDA.’ Formed in 1971, the UDA was only finally outlawed as a terrorist organisation in August 1992, by which time it is believed to have been responsible for some five hundred murders.1
