THE AUTHOR

Alisdare Hickson is a graduate of the London School of Economics, with an MSc in Economic History. He also holds a PhD in sociology from the University of Essex. After a period working as a researcher, he returned to his true passions of history, politics and photography. As an amateur photojournalist, he covered popular protests from Cairo to London and was briefly imprisoned in Egypt’s notorious Tora prison after documenting the uprisings against the military regime, which Britain continues to back. He has had many of his photographs published and is the author of The Poisoned Bowl, published by Constable in hardback and Duckworth in paperback, on the history of the policing of sexuality in British public schools.
